Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHP Spring Night Sky Program

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park invites you to a complimentary Spring Night Sky Program, “Starry, Starry Night,” at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek on May 17, 2024.

The Knob Creek Tavern Visitor Center will open at 7:00 p.m. (EST), with engaging night-sky activities for children beginning at the same time. Join Dr. Mark Pitts from Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Physics, Geosciences, and Astronomy for an enlightening tour of the spring night sky, covering stars, planets, light pollution, and the importance of dark skies.

The program will commence after sunset, around 8:48 p.m. (EST), and conclude no later than 9:30 p.m. (EST). To attend, kindly register in advance by contacting the park to secure your spot. On the event day, check in at the Knob Creek Tavern Visitor Center before the program starts. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight, blanket or chair, wear suitable footwear, and dress for the weather.

A Little About the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace

The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park preserves the humble log cabin where the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was born on February 12, 1809. Located near Hodgenville, Kentucky, the park encompasses the birthplace site, as well as the Knob Creek Farm where Lincoln lived during his early childhood.

The park offers visitors the opportunity to explore the historic birthplace cabin, learn about Lincoln’s early life and family, and experience the beautiful natural surroundings of the area.
